Understanding Normal Headrest Movement
It is important to remember that your headrest is designed to support the normal resting weight of your head, not resist heavy forces. Some vertical movement may occur if additional pressure is applied—for example, leaning back firmly or pushing downward—allowing the headrest to adjust for comfort.
This movement is intentional and part of our ergonomic philosophy: Your seat and headrest should conform to you, not resist you. Proper tension adjustment ensures your headrest stays comfortably in place during regular use while allowing flexibility when needed.
If you are experiencing a vertical tension issue where your headrest slides down or will not hold its position from the normal resting weight of your head, this is a somewhat common concern, but the good news is that it is usually an easy fix with just a few simple adjustments! Follow the steps below to restore the vertical tension and ensure your headrest stays properly positioned for maximum comfort.
Steps to Adjust Vertical Tension
Locate the Hex Bolt
The most common cause of vertical tension problems is a loose hex bolt located in the center of the arm mechanism.
- Use the Allen Key
- Use the Allen key provided in your hardware pack and insert the short end into the hex bolt inside the center of the arm. Turn the Allen key clockwise to tighten the bolt.

Important: Avoid over-tightening, as excessive force could damage the mechanism.
3. Ensure the bolt is tightened enough to improve vertical tension.
