How to Identify the Color of Your Herman Miller Embody Chair
When purchasing an Embody chair directly from the manufacturer, Herman Miller includes a warranty sticker that contains the SKU. Here’s how to use it to identify your chair's color:
1. Locate the Label
- Start by locating the warranty label, which is typically found on the top of the chair, hidden under the rounded back piece. This label contains key information, including the SKU.
2. Find the SKU
- On the label, you’ll see a short code—this is the SKU. It provides specific details about your chair, including the color.
3. Identify the Fabric Color Code
- The code will be either 5 or 4 characters long. These numbers represent the fabric color code. Here’s an example to clarify:

Fabric Color Code: 3SY12 → Black Sync
4. Use this fabric color code to reference the Color Charts below and identify the corresponding color of your chair.
If you don't have a SKU, no worries! Simply scroll past the color charts for more detailed instructions.
If you’ve purchased your chair second-hand or refurbished, it’s common for the warranty sticker to be removed.

First Letter after the E (which stands for Embody) (G or 9): This represents the color of your chair's frame.
- G = Graphite Frame
- 9 = White Frame
Middle Letter (G or T): This tells you about the backing behind your chair’s frame.
- G = Graphite Backing
- T = Translucent Backing (If you can see the fabric color through the backing, you'll want the translucent option.)

Looking for the Balance Fabric?
While we are currently not supporting Balance fabric, many Balance colors closely resemble those in our Rhythm collection. Although the headrest options may not be perfect matches for the Balance fabrics, they represent the closest available alternatives.
We recommend our Sync fabric as a versatile option for fabrics we don’t currently carry, as it is the highest grade fabric option available with a soft and durable feel. Just be sure to select a headrest with a frame and back plastic that matches your chair. The frame will either be Graphite or White. The back plastic will be either Graphite or Translucent.
