How to Understand Mount Piece Misalignment on Your Atlas Headrest for Embody Chairs

Understanding Mount Piece Misalignment on Your Atlas Headrest

Understanding the "Step" Appearance

If you have recently installed your Embody Atlas Headrest and noticed that the mount piece appears misaligned or has a "step" appearance, rest assured, this is intentional and part of the headrest’s design. This visual detail is a normal result of both functional engineering and the plastic molding process used to manufacture the mount.

Why the Mount Looks Misaligned

Several important factors contribute to the "step" you may see between the two chair mount parts:
  • Functional Design
The mount is specifically crafted to pull away from the center spine of the chair and make contact only near the outer edges.
This design provides better stability and ensures optimal headrest performance without interfering with the core structure of the chair.
  • Molding Process Requirements
During plastic injection molding, all parts must be designed with a draft—a slight taper—so they can be released from the mold without sticking.
This necessary tapering creates slight visual offsets (steps) in the part’s final shape.
  • Coverage and Aesthetic Considerations
Once the headrest is fully installed, the "step" area is mostly hidden and does not affect the appearance or functionality in normal use.
Creating a perfectly flush fit would have required highly complex and unnecessary tooling, adding cost without improving performance.

The example below can help you see how the design is supposed to look when properly installed:
InfoNote: The slight gap or step shown here is by design and ensures proper draft angle and stability. Since this area is mostly hidden after installation, a perfectly flush fit is not required for performance or support.
